Nobody should have to choose between filling a prescription and paying the electric bill. Nobody should go without mental health care because insurance won’t cover it or there’s no provider within an hour’s drive. Right now, that’s the reality for too many families in our district. Prescription drugs cost more here than anywhere else in the world, and mental health care remains out of reach for people who desperately need it.
Kiel has fought his way through hard times and knows what it’s like when help isn’t affordable. As your state representative, he’ll take on Big Pharma, insurance companies, and anyone else standing between families and the care they need.
Kiel will:
Cap out-of-pocket prescription drug costs so seniors and working families aren’t bankrupted by medications they need to survive. If Medicare can negotiate drug prices, Michigan should too.
Expand mental health coverage by requiring insurance companies to treat mental health the same as physical health; no more arbitrary limits on therapy sessions or denials for “not medically necessary” care.
Increase the mental health workforce through loan forgiveness and training programs that bring therapists, counselors, and psychiatrists to communities where they’re desperately needed. You can’t access care if there’s no one available to provide it.
Allow prescription drug importation from Canada and other safe sources where the same medications cost a fraction of what Americans pay, giving families real relief at the pharmacy counter.
Crack down on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and middlemen who drive up drug costs while pocketing profits, forcing transparency so families know what they’re actually paying for.
Support peer recovery and community mental health programs that provide accessible, affordable support outside traditional clinical settings. Not everyone needs a psychiatrist, but everyone deserves help when they’re struggling.
