For too long, young people in the 88th District have faced a choice: stay in the community you love with limited opportunities, or move away to find work that pays the bills. Meanwhile, local employers struggle to find skilled workers, and good-paying trades jobs go unfilled because we’ve spent decades telling kids the only path to success is a four-year degree.
Kiel knows firsthand that skilled trades and local businesses are the backbone of our economy. As your state representative, he’ll fight to create pathways to good paying careers right here at home.
Kiel will:
in local high schools and community colleges, connecting students directly to employers who are hiring. Electricians, plumbers, welders, HVAC technicians, and construction workers can earn great livings without college debt.
by increasing funding for technical training programs and ensuring every student knows that trades careers are respected, well paid paths to the middle class.
that matches training programs to actual local job openings, so people aren’t learning skills for jobs that don’t exist here, while employers can’t find workers for positions they need to fill.
through retraining programs and support services for workers displaced by economic shifts. Nobody should be stuck in a dying industry without options for a new start.
by cutting red tape for job creators, offering competitive incentives for companies that provide good wages and benefits, and prioritizing businesses that hire locally rather than shipping jobs overseas.
to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and quality training standards that protect workers and maintain Michigan’s reputation for skilled craftsmanship.
