Prescription Without Panic

Drug prices are up. Quality of care is down. And families can't plan for their medical future - much less an emergency today. Healthcare in Michigan shouldn't be this complicated or this expensive.

Where I start

Americans pay 324% more for patented prescription drugs than Canadians pay for the exact same medications.

There's already a bipartisan solution on the table: let Michigan buy prescription drugs wholesale, directly from Canada. The bill is right there. I'm tired of waiting.

I know I sound like a broken record, but for me, everything comes back to affordability – and prescription costs are just too high.

Here’s the number that should make you angry: patented prescription drugs in the United States cost 324% more than the exact same drugs in Canada. Same pill. Same company. Same safety standards. Triple the price – just because it crossed a border.

You shouldn’t have to choose between filling a prescription and filling your gas tank. And you shouldn’t have to drive to Windsor to afford your medication.

My plan:

I’ll fight to pass a Wholesale Prescription Drug Importation Act – giving Michigan the ability to buy patented prescription medications directly from Canada at Canadian prices.

This isn’t a new idea, and it isn’t a partisan one. There’s already bipartisan support for it, and states from Florida to Maine have moved forward with importation programs of their own. The framework exists. The federal pathway exists. What’s missing is a Legislature willing to push it over the finish line.

The solution is sitting right there on the table. We just need elected officials who’ll pick it up – and I’m tired of waiting.
