Small Business &
Lakeshore Tourism

In Michigan’s 88th District

Kiel is a small business owner. This is something he knows the intricacies of and has been successful with - he wants to make it easier for others to start their own businesses as well. He also understands that we rely on our beautiful Great Lakes to increase tourism - those need to be preserved.

You can’t run a business, do homework, or access telehealth in 2026 without reliable high-speed internet.

You can’t attract jobs and families to communities where the roads are crumbling and the water systems are aging. The 88th District has infrastructure needs that have been ignored for too long. Spotty broadband that leaves rural areas behind, roads that need constant repair, and water systems that can’t support growth are all contributing to the struggle. If we want to compete for the future, we need 21st-century infrastructure.

Kiel understands that infrastructure isn’t just about roads and bridges; it’s about economic opportunity. As your state representative, he’ll fight for the investments that connect our communities and create the foundation for long-term prosperity.

Kiel will:

Expand rural broadband access by leveraging state and federal funding to bring high-speed internet to every corner of the district. No more dead zones, no more families sitting in parking lots to do homework, no more businesses that can’t compete because they lack basic connectivity.

Fix our roads and bridges by securing funding for local infrastructure projects that don’t just patch potholes but actually rebuild roads to last (through the hots and colds of Michigan), reducing the endless cycle of emergency repairs that waste money and frustrate drivers.

Modernize water and sewer systems to support economic growth, protect public health, and ensure communities can handle new housing and business development without infrastructure failures.

Invest in green infrastructure that manages stormwater, reduces flooding, and protects our lakeshore and waterways. Smart infrastructure pays for itself by preventing costly damage and preserving property values.

Support local road commissions and utility providers with the resources and flexibility they need to maintain and upgrade infrastructure efficiently, without being hamstrung by unfunded mandates from Lansing.

Prepare for future growth by planning infrastructure investments strategically by connecting business parks, supporting housing development in areas with capacity, and ensuring growth strengthens communities rather than overwhelming them.

Leverage public private partnerships to stretch infrastructure dollars further and bring private investment to projects that serve the public good, ensuring taxpayers get maximum value for every dollar spent.

40% of Michigan roads are in poor or mediocre condition
